Chapter 8
Fantasia walked out of the hospital when Leslie pulled up in front of the emergency exit. Leslie had driven Fantasia’s car home from the club. Fantasia had ridden in the ambulance with the woman she and her friend found in the parking lot at Club Rave. Fantasia was extremely caught by surprise when she was able to shine the flashlight application on her iPhone into the woman’s face and saw who it was. Candace, her ex-coworker, had had the living shit kicked out of her, and looked like she was about to pass out.
Two hours later Fantasia was back at home in the apartment she shared with Leslie. “Who do you think could’ve done that to that girl?” Leslie inquired.
Fantasia sat on the couch, still stunned by last night’s events. She was too lost in her thoughts to pay Leslie any attention. If all that shit wouldn’t have happened between me and Leslie, then Candace probably wouldn’t have been found. Shit! The whole thing was too much for Fantasia; even having been questioned by the police at the hospital.
“Hello, girl, you hear me talkin’ to you?” Leslie yelled, snapping Fantasia out of her thoughts.
“Yes! No…I’m sorry, what did you say?”
“I said, who do you think could’ve beat that girl’s ass like that?”
Fantasia answered her by shrugging her shoulders. “What time is it? I forgot I have to be to work early today.”
Leslie looked at the clock hanging on the wall above Fantasia’s head. It’s a quarter to nine. What time do you have to go in?”
“Twelve-oh-fuckin’-clock!” Fantasia snapped.
“Damn, why so early?”
“Our new supervisor is trying to look good for her supervisor.” Fantasia rolled her eyes and called her new supervisor all kinds of bad names in her head.
“Who is she? I know she can’t be worse than that Elvira woman you used to complain about every day.”
“Girl, she’s worse than worse. Makes me wish we had Elvira’s big nose ass back,” she joked.
“Who is she?” Leslie asked anxiously. She was even squirming in her seat, causing Fantasia to laugh.
“You remember Kim Jones don’t you?” Leslie nodded her head and dropped her mouth open at the same time. “Yes, girl, they gave her the new position. Nobody knew she even applied for the job. I applied as well, but we all thought Candace, the chick we found in the parking lot, was gone get the job for sure…before she was fired.”
“Damn…all that shit sounds suspicious to me.”
“I know right,” Fantasia agreed. “Ever since Candace was fired, Kim started walking around work like she was already promoted. She started telling people what to do and even being extra friendly with Elvira. They never got along before, but now, all of a sudden, they were buddy-buddy. I swear she had something to do with Candace getting fired. Who the fuck fires somebody because they were applying for other jobs on their computers?”
“I’m sayin’! That shit don’t make no sense to me either,” Leslie said, leaning back in her seat. Remembering that Fantasia’s
